Tri-State Biodiesel CEO, Brent Baker, joined Council Member James Gennaro, and NYC Mayor Bloomberg for the new biodiesel bill signing. The bill, originally authored by CM Gennaro, co-sponsored by many in the city council, and signed yesterday by Mayor Bloomberg, requires the use of biodiesel in all city fleet vehicles including sanitation, parks, fire, and ambulances. This bill combined with an earlier bill that requires the use of biodiesel in all heating oil sold in the city makes NYC the biggest biodiesel city in the nation!
Tri-State Biodiesel was referred to at the signing as “local biodiesel heroes” by CM Gennero who was referring to our years of hard work to help make locally produced biodiesel made from recycled cooking and integral part of the city’s fuel supply. Tri-State Biodiesel has been consistently lobbying and testifying for biodiesel use in the city since the early 2000s.
Congratulations and thanks to all who made this bill possible including the Mayor, the City Council, the National Biodiesel Board, the many environmental organizations and our biodiesel industry partners.
We still have a long way to go, but this is a huge step towards making NYC the greenest big city in the United States!!
